About
Kanji are made of kanji
Japanese kanji are not random symbols. They are built from reusable components that appear again and again across thousands of characters. MojiMori is designed around that idea.
What MojiMori Means
MojiMori is a compound of two Japanese words โ "a forest of characters." Thousands of kanji look impenetrable from a distance, but reveal themselves as a living ecosystem of shared roots, branches, and recurring shapes once you step inside.
Our job is to be the map of that forest. At the center of MojiMori is the Kanji Atlas โ a recursive graph that breaks every character into its components, layer by layer. Move through shared parts. Discover the relationships.
Built for Deep Understanding
- โ Recursive kanji decomposition. Explore how kanji are assembled from radicals and reusable graphemes, layer by layer.
- โ Interconnected learning. Kanji, words, readings, and components are linked together so learning happens through context and relationships โ not isolated flashcards.
- โ Memory heatmaps. See at a glance which areas of the writing system are strong and which need reinforcement.
- โ Study desks + spaced repetition. FSRS-5 (the 2024 algorithm) blended with SM-2, tuned for long-term retention rather than streak-chasing.
- โ Grade-based lessons. Follow the Japanese school progression from Grade 1 through secondary-level kanji. Quiz sessions hosted by Mizuki Sensei.
- โ Pitch accent + stroke order. Learn pronunciation patterns and writing structure alongside meaning.
The Numbers
What MojiMori Is Not
- Not a complete curriculum. Use it alongside a textbook, a tutor, or another app โ it's the reference and structure layer, not the syllabus.
- Not a replacement for grammar study or immersion. Kanji structure is one piece of Japanese โ not the whole thing.
You should already know kana before starting.
