第3章 必要な分を、必要な時に

80 words at Grade 3+ highlighted
1 2 3 4 5 6 S

Grades 1–6 refer to Japanese primary school. S means secondary school. These are school grades, not JLPT levels. You can look up words at any level.

Read with furigana, romaji, and English. Hover or focus a phrase to see matching colors. Tap an underlined word for its meaning.

昼ひるに売うれ残のこった弁当べんとうを見みると、春はるは残念ざんねんな気持きもちになります。

Hiru ni urenokotta bentou o miru to, haru wa zannen na kimochi ni narimasu.

When she sees the bento left unsold at lunchtime, Haru feels disappointed.

たくさん作つくれば安心あんしんですが、売うれなければ材料ざいりょうと時間じかんが無駄むだになります。

Takusan tsukureba anshin desu ga, urenakereba zairyou to jikan ga muda ni narimasu.

Making a lot feels reassuring, but if it does not sell, ingredients and time go to waste.

少すくなすぎると、買かいに来きた人ひとが困こまります。

Sukuna sugiru to, kai ni kita hito ga komarimasu.

If there is too little, the people who came to buy it are left in difficulty.

この間あいだを考かんがえるための入口いりぐちが、ジャスト・イン・タイムです。

Kono aida o kangaeru tame no iriguchi ga, jasuto・ in・ taimu desu.

Just-in-time is a starting point for thinking about the balance between these extremes.

トヨタは、必要ひつような物ものを、必要ひつような時ときに、必要ひつような量りょうだけ作つくる考かんがえを大切たいせつにしています。

Toyota wa, hitsuyou na mono o, hitsuyou na toki ni, hitsuyou na ryou dake tsukuru kangae o taisetsu ni shite imasu.

Toyota values the idea of making what is needed, at the time it is needed, and only in the amount needed.

仕事しごとの後あとの工程こうていが使つかった分ぶんを、前まえの工程こうていが補おぎなう仕組しくみも使つかいます。

Shigoto no ato no koutei ga tsukatta bun o, mae no koutei ga oginau shikumi mo tsukaimasu.

It also uses a system in which the earlier process replaces what the later process has used.

工程こうていとは、全体ぜんたいの仕事しごとを分わけた一ひとつ一ひとつの段階だんかいです。

Koutei to wa, zentai no shigoto o waketa hitotsu hitotsu no dankai desu.

A process is each of the stages into which the overall work is divided.

「作つくれるから作つくる」だけでなく、「次つぎに何なにが必要ひつようか」を見みます。

"Tsukureru kara tsukuru" dake de naku, "tsugi ni nani ga hitsuyou ka" o mimasu.

Instead of only thinking "We make it because we can," look at "What is needed next?"

青あおい箱はこでは、春はるが客きゃくの数かずを時間じかんごとに記録きろくしました。

Aoi hako de wa, haru ga kyaku no kazu o jikangoto ni kiroku shimashita.

At Blue Box, Haru recorded the number of customers for each time period.

そして、よく売うれる時間じかんには少すこし多おおめに準備じゅんびし、静しずかな時間じかんには少量しょうりょうずつ作つくる実験じっけんをしました。

Soshite, yoku ureru jikan ni wa sukoshi oome ni junbi shi, shizuka na jikan ni wa shouryou zutsu tsukuru jikken o shimashita.

They then experimented with preparing a little more at busy selling times and making small batches during quiet periods.

空からになった箱はこにカードを入いれておくと、調理ちょうりする人ひとに「次つぎの分ぶんが必要ひつようです」と伝つたわります。

Kara ni natta hako ni kaado o irete oku to, chouri suru hito ni "tsugi no bun ga hitsuyou desu" to tsutawarimasu.

Putting a card in an empty box tells the person cooking that the next batch is needed.

工場こうじょうの「かんばん」も、必要ひつような物ものや量りょうなどを伝つたえるために使つかわれます。

Koujou no "kanban" mo, hitsuyou na mono ya ryou nado o tsutaeru tame ni tsukawaremasu.

A factory's "kanban" is also used to communicate the items and quantities needed.

ただし、弁当屋べんとうやの例れいは工場こうじょうの仕組しくみをそのまま再現さいげんしたものではありません。

Tadashi, bentouya no rei wa koujou no shikumi o sonomama saigen shita mono de wa arimasen.

However, the bento-shop example does not reproduce the factory's system exactly.

また、在庫ざいこを何なんでもゼロにすればよいわけでもありません。

Mata, zaiko o nan de mo zero ni sureba yoi wake de mo arimasen.

Nor does this mean that inventory of everything should be reduced to zero.

雨あめや交通こうつうの問題もんだいで材料ざいりょうが届とどかない日ひもあります。

Ame ya koutsuu no mondai de zairyou ga todokanai hi mo arimasu.

There are also days when ingredients do not arrive because of rain or traffic problems.

何なにをどれだけ残のこすかは、状況じょうきょうに合あわせて考かんがえる必要ひつようがあります。

Nani o dore dake nokosu ka wa, joukyou ni awasete kangaeru hitsuyou ga arimasu.

What to keep and how much must be considered according to the situation.

春はるたちは、余あまった弁当べんとうの数かずと、売うり切きれで断ことわった客きゃくの数かずを両方りょうほう記録きろくしました。

Harutachi wa, amatta bentou no kazu to, urikire de kotowatta kyaku no kazu o ryouhou kiroku shimashita.

Haru and her colleagues recorded both the number of leftover bento and the number of customers turned away after selling out.

一ひとつの数字すうじだけがよくなっても、店みせ全体ぜんたいがよくなったとは限かぎらないのです。

Hitotsu no suuji dake ga yoku natte mo, mise zentai ga yoku natta to wa kagiranai no desu.

An improvement in just one figure does not necessarily mean that the whole shop has improved.
